Ready for a new Perfectly CAS challenge? This month our theme is Stripes and/or Dots. I went with stripes on my card, in the form of candy canes! My husband was of the opinion that that doesn’t count- what what you think?
I started with a white card base and stamped the sentiment from Altenew’s Sweet Season stamp set with Soft Granite ink from Hero Arts’ Shades of Grey ink cube set. I wasn’t sure if the grey was the colour I wanted to go with, so I left the stamp in my MISTI, so that I could stamp again if I decided I wanted to change the colour of the wording later.
Next I took one of the candy cane stamps from the same set. There are actually three stamps, which can be layered together. One is a solid base layer, one is the thicker stripes, and the third is the thinner stripes. I decided to use just the thicker stripe stamp this time. I stamped it repeatedly up my card, adjusting the angle as I went, with Altenew’s Ruby Red ink.
With the red stamping on the card I decided that I wasn’t happy with the sentiment being grey. I positioned my card base in the MISTI once again so that I could restamp the sentiment with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I got my positioning very slightly off – so very slightly that it’s barely noticeable, and if anything the grey peeking from behind just gives the look of shadowing, which I like. If I would have tried to do it on purpose I doubt I would have been able to get the positioning accurate enough to have such a slight shadow!
For a little extra interest on my very simple design I decided to add a trio of score lines down either side of my stamping. My husband liked that, because he felt it bought in the stripes more. I still think that the stripes on the candy canes count!
I hope this inspires you to come and join in with our challenge. You can find further inspiration from the rest of the Design Team on the challenge site or directly at their blogs via the links below. If you do come to play along, remember to follow the theme and keep it CAS – our rules state that the design should be confined to 1/3 of the space on your card front.
Love,
