Elegant Bliss – SSS Blissful Card Kit

The wedding card I made yesterday was quite soft and delicate in its colouring. This one is definitely much bolder. It’s a striking, eye-catching and elegant card. I can’t take credit for this card design as I’m fairly sure I’ve seen a very similar one in at least one of the videos made using this card kit. (And looking now there seem to be at least two very similar ones in the card kit gallery.) But it’s a really pretty design and I couldn’t resist doing my own version of it.

I started by stamping and gold heat embossing the large flower arrangement from the Floral Bliss stamp set onto a piece of black card. The stamp set, as well as the patterned paper and the card base, came with Simon Says Stamp’s June Card Kit, Blissful. My original plan was to use the Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide that came in the kit to smoosh over the flowers, but it did not look good. I also considered painting with it, but again it wasn’t working for me. So I redid the stamping and heat embossing and left it just as gold on black.

Next I used a stitched curvy die from Pink and Main’s Scallop Wave Dies to cut the panel to be a bit smaller than the card base. My plan was to the floral patterned paper, from Echo Park’s Wedding Bliss 6×6 paper pack, to cover the remaining area of the card base. I noticed that the black of the pattern paper doesn’t quite match the black of the stamped panel. In order to make this less obvious I decided to add another layer as a buffer of sorts between the too.

My first idea was to use some gold mirror card, but I only have snippets left and none of them were big enough. Instead I decided to make my own gold card using the same embossing powder I’d used for my flower image. I took a scrap of white card and ran my embossing ink pad along it, then covered the ink with embossing powder and heat set it. I then used the coordinating scallop die to cut the gold paper I had made so that the wave would line up nicely with the one on the black. I actually misplaced it very slightly so it is a little off, but works well enough.

At this point I started layering everything together. I used Tombow Multi Mono Liquid Glue to adhere the gold panel to the back of the black. (Side note here, I really like the look of the gold peeking through the stitching lines!) I used the Tombow again to attach the floral paper to the card base, then trimmed away the excess. I considered attaching the stamped panel with foam tape but eventually decided just to add it on flat, again using the Tombow glue.

As a final touch I added a sentiment. I considered creating some kind of banner but then decided to stay fairly simple and instead stamped it directly onto the black panel, heat embossing it with the same gold powder so that it all coordinated. As a final touch I painted over all the flowers and leaves with my Wink of Stella to add a touch of sparkle.

I’m very happy with this card, and really like the way it turned out. I love how eye-catching it is. I wish I could take credit for the fabulous design, but as I said in the beginning of the post I have seen a few very similar versions. It’s a beautiful design, so kudos to whoever came up with it first!

Love,

Lady Joyful
