Hello Poppies (With Video) – CIC 423

The new Cupcake Inspiration Challenge is up today. This week we have a floral theme for our challenge, and we are sponsored by Birch Press Design who are generously providing a $20 gift certificate for one lucky winner!  

For my card I decided I wanted to do some emboss resist with a silhouetted flower and a watercolour wash.

I began by cutting a piece of watercolour paper to be the size of my card front. I then treated the paper with my anti-static powder tool.

All the stamps I used are from the Big Blooms stamp set from The Cat’s Pajamas. I placed my panel into my MISTI and played around with positioning until I was happy with it. I stamped both flowers and the sentiment with embossing ink then coated with gold embossing powder.

After melting the embossing powder I started on my watercolour wash. I first used a large brush to apply water across my panel, then started dropping in red water colour paint. I tilted the panel and let the colour spread, then heat set it with my heat gun.

I went back in and added more paint, building up the layers and drying in between each, until I was happy with the depth of colour in the background. I then took some paper towel which was very slightly damp and used that to remove any paint that was on top of my heat embossing.

I used some strong double-sided tape to adhere the panel to the card base. As a final touch I added three red sequins which I glued down with Glossy Accents.

This card didn’t turn out exactly how I had in mind. The red didn’t quite hit the colour I wanted, but it worked well enough. I’m happy with it for the most part, even if it isn’t what I’d imagined!
