Meow-lloween – CIC 426

The new Cupcake Inspiration Challenge is just perfect for Halloween. The colour scheme is perfect and those fun cupcakes are great inspiration! This week we are sponsored by Bugaboo Stamps who are offering a $12 gift certificate to one randomly chosen winner! The image I used for my card was provided by Bugaboo – isn’t it sweet?

I started by printing the image onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. I then worked on colouring it. I actually coloured this up for day 28 of The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge. I considered colouring the cat black but I really wanted him to have a black hat, so I went for brown tabby instead. I had a lot of trouble with the blending as my lightest brown Yosoo marker was on its last legs. I managed to get just enough ink from it to finish the colouring though!

As I said I wanted to go black for the hat. I used my dark cool grey markers and tried to colour it to give a hint of shine, almost as if it is made of satin. I used the same colours for the cloak too. I then used some orange for the band on the hat, the edge of the cloak, some of the patches as well as the pumpkin. For the rest of the patches, stars, and buckle on the hat I used yellow. I finished off by colouring the spider with cool greys. Once I’d finished with all my colouring I fussy cut the image and set it aside.

I decided to use an orange card base, and for some added interest I stamped a tone-on-tone pattern all over it. I used the various sweet/candy images from Simon Says Stamp’s Creepy Cute stamp set, which I got in the (sold out) limited edition Halloween card kit. I used orange slush ink, which was probably not the best choice as it ended up fading back to be more subtle than I had intended!

Having completed my pattern I added my sentiment. I was initially going to just use “witch way to the candy?” but I decided to add “it’s meow-lloween!” too. I stamped them both with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I then pulled out a witch’s hat brad from my stash, clipped the ‘arms’ of the back, and used a foam square to adhere it over my sentiment, completing my card.

I’m pretty pleased with this card. I’m a bit annoyed that the orange of my pattern ended up fading out so much, but otherwise I am happy. I really like the cat digi stamp. It was fun to colour and I’d love to put him into a scene sometime.

Love,

Lady Joyful
