There may still be many months until Christmas arrives, but it’s never too early to start building your Christmas card stash to avoid a last minute rush. The Watercooler Wednesday challenge this week is perfect to help with that as we are looking for Christmas creations.
My card uses an image from Kit and Clowder. I believe this was one Alyce offered as part of her advent calendar event last year. It came ready paired with the sentiment, so all I had to do was print it out and get colouring.
I mostly used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers, and bought in Yosoo alcohol markers for any colours I was missing in the SNs. As the image is greyscale I didn’t have to think too hard about where to lay down the shadows because they were already provided. I just had to decide which colours I wanted to use.
I went with nontraditional colours for the flowers in the background of my image. I did consider using red but thought it would be too bold, so went with some soft blues and yellows instead. I really wanted the flowers to stay in the background, with the deer itself keeping the viewer’s focus.
Once I was happy with the colouring all I had left to do was adhering the image panel flush to a card base, which completed the card.
I’m very happy with this card. It was an easy one to make, but the image is so beautiful and was great fun to colour. I don’t think I had coloured an image with greyscale before this one, but it was a fun experience. I know some images come even more greyscale than this one was – it did have a lot of white areas still – so it would be interesting to see how those would colour up.
