CASS | Icy Coffee | Snowflakes

Our new challenge at Christmas at Sweet Stampin’ started this morning. (Sorry for being late sharing my project!) Our theme for the May challenge is anything Christmas goes with the optional twist of including snowflakes. I incorporated snowflakes in three different ways on my card, and at the same time I used three different forms of embossing.

I began by creating my background. I mixed some Unicorn Dust glitter into some embossing paste (see here for a video I did on how to store embossing paste). I then placed the Tim Holtz Snowflakes Layering Stencil over my card base and applied the embossing paste through it to create a glittery snowflake background. I then immediately washed all my tools that had the paste on them.

Next I did some die cutting. I die cut the MFT Coffee Cup Die-namics from some snippets of white card, plus a vellum snippet for the coffee cup’s sleeve. I also cut my Merry Christmas sentiment from both white card and vellum. I layered the sentiment die cuts together, very slightly offset to create the look of a shadow.

Taking the main part of my coffee cup I ran it through my Big Shot with the cleaned and dried snowflake stencil on the embossing setting. (You can find more information on embossing with stencils here.) The impression was not quite as intense as I would have preferred (and doesn’t show up in the pictures!), but I think the subtle look works too.

My third kind of embossing was heat embossing. I took the snowflake from Art Impression’s Merriest Christmas and stamped it onto the vellum piece with embossing ink. My stamping was slightly off centre which was a little annoying. I then coated with Love From Lizi Rainbow Wishes embossing powder and heat set. Finally I filled in the open portions of the snowflake with a white gel pen.

All that was left to do was assembling the card. I used my glue pen to adhere the lid and sleeve onto the coffee cup. I then used Glossy Accents to adhere the sentiment and cup onto my card base over the embossed background.

I really had a lot of fun making this snowflake themed card. White on white can be tricky but I think this turned out pretty well. Be sure to head over and check out the inspiration from the rest of the design team, which you can find on the challenge blog or on their own blogs via the links below. And as always, we hope to see you joining in with us!

Love,

Lady Joyful
