CIC 496 | Birthday Flamingo | Cyan, Tangerine and Pink

Our colour challenge at Cupcake Inspirations is well underway and I’m back to share a reminder card with you. The colours are cyan, tangerine and pink. You can find the first card I made with the colours here. This time I was not only inspired by the colours, but also by the flamingo in the back of the inspiration image.

I started my card by ink blending on a snippet of white card stock. I used Catherine Pooler’s Party Dress and Tiki Torch inks for the ink blending. I had a little bit of trouble getting them to blend exactly as I wanted so I did bring in just a touch of Tutti Frutti as an intermediate shade to go between the two and help the blend.

Once I was happy with the ink blending I die cut it three times with the Simon Says Stamp Flamingo Wafer Die. I didn’t want to wait for my panel to be fully dry before cutting as I wasn’t feeling very patient(!) so in order to make sure that my cutting plates wouldn’t get inky I put a piece of scrap printer paper on top of the panel to protect my plates from the ink when I ran it through.

I chose a blue card base to pull in the cyan of the colour palette, and found some long snippets of white to add along the top and bottom of the card. As I was playing with the layout I decided I wasn’t entirely happy with the look of the blue card base. I used a pencil to mark off the area that would show from beneath that white strips, then pressed my embossing ink pad into it. I coated with Love From Lizi’s Baby Blue Party Embossing Powder and heat set with my WOW! Dual Speed Heat Tool.

I used double sided tape to adhere the white strips to the top and bottom edges of my card, leaving the pretty embossed area showing in between. I then used Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to adhere the flamingos into place.

I really wasn’t sure what sentiment I wanted to add to the card, so I ended up setting it aside for a while and working on other projects whilst I thought about it. Eventually I decided to use the Happy Birthday sentiment from Skull and Cross Buns’ Quirky Sentiments (which I received for free as I’m on their design team). I placed the card into my MISTI, and again used Party Dress and Tiki Torch inks, applying the pink to the top part of the sentiment and the orange to the bottom in order to match the colour on my flamingos.

This was such a fun card to make and the flamingos turned out just how I was picturing them in my head when I had the idea, which is always nice! I really do like the colours of this card and it was a fun colour palette to play with. I hope this inspires you to play along with our challenge. Don’t forget you can see the first card I made with the colour palette here. The reminder post on the challenge site is here and the original post here, both of which have more inspiration from the team. You can also visit their blogs directly by the links below.
