Same Set Syndrome | Stencil Foiling Without A Laminator | Joy Clair Stamps

I’m excited to tell you that I’m part of another ongoing collaboration group. This collaboration is a series that will be monthly. Today’s is the first one, and the last will be in November. It is all about supporting smaller stamp companies. This month the company is Joy Clair Stamps, and one lucky person who comments on the hop will win a $25 gift card. I decided to make a pair of cards using two of the images from the brand new A Little Wine stamp set. I chose the cat and the mouse. I coloured them in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers.

For the cat I used brown greys, whilst I went with blue greys for the mouse. They both got hints of pink – for the mouse on the tail, and for the cat on the inner ears and paw pads. I shared their white stomachs with cream shade, and added a very light blue to add shading and dimension to the drinking glasses on each image. I did not colour the liquid of the drinks.

Using a Zig 2 Way Glue Pen I carefully coloured in the liquid with glue then allowed it to dry until tacky. I was then able to add foil. I used Red Velvet foil for the cat’s drink, and Jelly Bean Green for the mouse’s. I then fussy cut the images out and set them aside.

Next I worked on the backgrounds for my cards, which also involved foiling. I chose a black card base for the cat card and kraft for the mouse. I then used a sponge to apply Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue through the STAMPlorations Art Splatters stencil onto each of the card bases. Once it had dried to the tacky state I pressed on the foil, and peeled it up to reveal the foiled splatter design.

Finally I popped up my images and sentiments onto the coordinating card bases on foam tape for some fun dimension.

I’ve always loved the look of foiling, and I really enjoy that I’ve found a way to use it despite not owning a laminator. I’ve had fun with this technique many times before (you can see it with this same stencil and rainbow foil here) and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I do.
