CIC 510 | Little Polar Bear | Arctic Animals

The first challenge of the year at Cupcake Inspirations is Arctic Animals, and we’re now into our second week. We have a sponsor for this challenge, and our lucky randomly chosen winner will receive three sets of digital stamps from Pixel Paper Prints, who also provided the images that the design team have used.

I chose the cute polar bear image from Pixel Paper Prints’ Arctic Animals set and printed it onto a piece of Neenah 80lb card stock . I then used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour the polar bear and also to create an icy scene around it.

I used greys for the polar bear, blending it out with a blender pen. I also used a touch of pale pink for its cheeks. For the scene I started with an icy blue to draw in the edge of the ice sheet that the polar bear is standing on, plus to add shadows into the snow. I used the blender pen once again to blend that out. For the water I used some blue-greens, and for the sky I used true blues. I added soft clouds to the sky with my blender pen, and shine to the water with a white gel pen.

For the rest of my card I used papers from The Paper Boutique – Christmas Cuddles Collection. I went for the unpatterned papers in a pale blue, darker blue-green, and pink. I used the pale blue to create a background panel which I embossed with a Subtle embossing folder. The blue-green I embossed a strip with a cable knit folder, and edged with some Love From Lizi pinstripe peel-offs in white with a gold edging. And for the pink I die cut a circle.

I used double sided tape to adhere all of the layers together before attaching them to a dark blue card base. I decided to forgo adding a sentiment.

This card is definitely a step away from the clean and simple style that my other cards so far this month have had. I like how it turned out though, and especially the image panel. I hope this inspires you to join in with our challenge. You can find more inspiration from the rest of the DT over on the challenge page, or directly on their blog posts via the links below.
