Christmas Cat Scene

It’s quite rare for me to revisit a design I’ve made before. There have been a lot of designs that I’ve liked a lot and said I’d want to make again, but I so enjoy making new designs that I don’t go back to the old ones. This card is an exception. I was so pleased with the scene I made for this card that I really wanted to have another go at it. The card itself is different, but the scene in the focal panel is almost identical.

My starting point was my focal panel. Using my previous card as a guideline I stamped out all the elements of the scene, masking off as required. The cats, tree, gift and sentiment stamps all come from Simon Says Stamp’s Christmas Cats, and the rug is from The Greeting Farm’s Kitty Stacks. I then used a ruler and pencil to draw in the fireplace, picture frame, and base board.

I used both my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and my Yosoo alcohol markers to colour in the images. I even went with the same colour choices I had used on the original card! I did colour the wall of my scene using the Eggshell SN marker this time, whereas on my previous card I fussy cut the elements out and adhered them onto a piece of coloured card. After colouring the floor I went in with some very sharp brown pencils to carefully draw in the lines of the floorboards. Once all the colouring was done I outlined all my hand drawn elements with a black fine tip marker.

I trimmed my focal panel down and mounted it on some brown card. I thought about adding a window frame over the top of the image but realised it would cover the front cats face too much, so decided against it.

I chose a very pale yellow/cream card base and added a strip of Christmas-y washi tape around it before adhering my focal panel into place. As a final touch I added some Glossy Accents to give the appearance of glass in my picture frame.

Again I’m pretty pleased with myself for managing to create a scene like this! Although this time I feel it’s slightly less impressive given that I basically copied myself. I don’t think the sentiment area looks as good this time – I positioned it badly so it’s not really centred above the fireplace, and I also didn’t leave enough space for the frame around it as I would rather have had a wider frame. Even so I’m happy with the card, and I think the recipient will like it too!

Love,

Lady Joyful
