The Little Paper Tree | Emboss Resist Rainbow Background | Video

In this month’s video for The Little Paper Tree I decided to use the Puppy Love stamp set from Honey Bee Stamps. I had a couple of ideas in mind as to what to do with the stamp set, and in the end this is what I settled on.

I started by taking most of the accessory stamps from the stamp set and arranging them in a cluster on my card base. I didn’t use the paw print stamps as I just wanted outlines. Once I was happy with the arrangement I picked the stamps up on my acrylic block and stamped them repeatedly across my card base with embossing ink. I changed the direction of the cluster to add interest, and finished off at the end by stamping with individual images to fill in any gaps. As the clear ink is a bit difficult to see on the white card base I did add embossing powder after every set of stamping to make sure I wouldn’t overlap any of the stamping.

Once the whole card base was stamped I heat embossed the images using clear embossing powder, then began creating my emboss resist rainbow background with Distress Oxides. In my recent rainbow ink blending video I showed using Festive Berries, Wild Honey, Squeezed Lemonade, Lucky Clover, Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon and Worn Lipstick to create the rainbow. This time I wanted to try using less inks to get my rainbow ask I cut down to just four colours – Festive Berries, Wild Honey, Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon. I blended back and forth between them until I was happy with the coverage. I sprinkled on a little water, let it sit for a moment, then dabbed it up with a paper towel, to get a slightly distressed look.

Next I white heat embossed an appropriate sentiment from my stash onto a snippet of black card stock, trimmed it down and popped it up on my rainbow card base. I also stamped one of the dogs from the Puppy Love set (do you know what kind of dog it is?) onto a snippet of white card, coloured it with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and fussy cut it out, before popping it up on the card base too. As a final touch I added a couple of googly eyes to the dog.

I enjoyed making this card and I really like how it turned out. The googly eyes were an afterthought and not how I’d originally seen the card going, but I think they add a lot of fun to the design. My husband loves the googly eyes so much that I gave him this card to keep, because he laughs every time he sees it!

Love,

Lady Joyful
