Perfectly CAS Challenge | Treasure Flower | Stencils

I’m excited to be joining the Design Team for Perfectly CAS. If you’re not familiar with this challenge, it’s about using the Rule of Thirds to create a CAS card. We use just 1/3 of the card – any 1/3 you like, you can chose for yourself – and leave the rest as empty space, keeping it Perfectly CAS! Each month we have a different theme to play with, and this month we’re looking for cards that use stencils.

I started my card with a white card base, and masked off a portion towards the bottom. I then laid Altenew’s On The Plus Side stencil over and ink blended through it with Altenew’s Coral Berry and Frosty Pink, and Hero Arts’ Soft Granite inks. I then removed the stencil and masks and set the card base to one side.

For my focal point I decided to use Build A Flower: Sakura Blossom. I already had one of the small flower layers that I had stamped a while ago in pale pink. I die cut another of the small flowers along with each size of leaf, then stamped them. For the flower I went with the Coral Berry and Frosty Pink, and for the leaves I used Soft Granite on both layers. I also added a layer of the stamen (I think that’s what it is!), but didn’t stamp them. I then used a Nuvo Smooth Precision Glue Pen to adhere the layers together.

With the flower as a guide I worked out where to stamp my sentiment, from the same Sakura Blossom stamp set. I used Hero Arts’ Chalkboard ink to stamp it over my stenciled area. I maybe should have let the stenciling dry for longer first as the sentiment bled a little bit.

With all the elements ready, I adhered my flower into place on the card. I then finished off with some Nuvo Drops – I used Bubblegum Blush in the centre of the flower, and Liquid Mercury on the ends of the stamen.

I’m pretty pleased with how this card turned out. I do enjoy making CAS designs and I think this one came together nicely. I’m still feeling a bit rusty with the card making from my long break, and trying to get myself back into the flow of it is slow going… But it’s nice to have the incentive to create, and for it to actually go to plan! I hope my card inspires you to come and play along with our challenge. You can also find more inspiration on the challenge site, or on the DT’s blogs directly below.
