It’s time for a new HLS CAS challenge! This month our theme is ‘three of a kind’, and as always how you interpret the theme is entirely up to you. I went for a trio of flowers for my bright birthday card.
I started with a white card base and played around with the stamps from Altenew’s Build-A-Flower: Sakura Blossom stamp set to work out my layout.
Once I was happy with the plan I started stamping with the help of my MISTI. I first stamped the base layer of the large flower with Hero Arts Butter Bar ink. I then masked the large flower off and stamped the base layer of the small flower to either side, again with the Butter Bar ink. Doing all the base layers first, rather than working through all layers of a single flower at once, allowed the layers time to dry a little so that there would be no bleeding and each layer would remain crisp.
Next I moved on to the second layer of each flower. For these I used Tangerine ink, and I finished by adding the third centre layer in Just Rust.
I masked off the flowers once again and started adding the leaves. This time I used Altenew inks, with Mountain Mist for the base layer, and Volcano Lake for the detail layer. I then added the sentiment which I stamped with Lagoon ink.
The final touch on my card was some dot detail to the centres of the flowers using a Sakura Gelly Roll Glitter Gel Pen.
I’m quite happy with how this card turned out. I always enjoy this stamp set, and the colour palette worked really nicely with it. I’m glad I decided to try it. I hope this inspires you to come and join in with our challenge. You can find more beautiful inspiration from the rest of the design team on the challenge page or directly on their blogs via the link below.
