Hello You

Hello YouWhen I set out making this card I thought it would be quick. Just a little bit of stamping. Shows what I know… Only two challenges went into the creation of this card – Daring Cardmakers‘ raspberry and lime challenge, and City Crafter‘s challenge to use the word “you”.

I started by picking out my pnk and green inks, getting as close to raspberry and lime in colour as I could. I then took my “hello you” sentiment from Avery Elle’s Petal Panel and got started with creating my background. Now I’ve watched enough YouTube videos creating backgrounds with sentiment stamps to know that it’s much better to stamp on the diagonal rather than straight up and down on the card base. But I didn’t do that. Why? Probably because I’m masochistic or something… Sigh.

Anyway, I stamped the sentiment all over the background, alternating colours, and shifting the position of the stamp each time to give a staggered effect. It took quite a while to do, and when I was done I sent my husband a picture of it and told him that I don’t like it. Sigh again.

Not wanting to give up I forged ahead with my plan. I took the “hello” stamp from Altenew’s Super Script, found (more-or-less) centre, and stamped it in black pigment ink over the text background I’d created. I felt like it looked a bit better, but still missing something.

Finishing off I cut down two narrow strips of black card and taped  them along the top and bottom of the card, which I feel helped bring it all together a bit.

Hello You 2I’m not a fan of this card, honestly. The background looks a mess to me. I do like the colours, and I think it was a good idea in theory. I just didn’t pull it off so well… Which is particularly frustrating given the success I’ve been having lately!

Love,

Lady Joyful

  1. Honestly, at first glimpse I thought you had used patterned paper for your background – so really, don’t worry! It’s a great card, very cheerful. Thanks for playing along with the Daring Cardmakers this week. x Svenja
