This week at Cupcake Inspirations Challenge we have a fun colour palette to play with. Cream, gold and brown are a lovely, rich combination. For some reason though I was struggling to decide what to create with the colours. Whilst I was trying to come up with an idea my eye caught a picture frame on our bookshelf – a cream frame, in which is a gold tree on dark brown paper. Just the colours I needed to use. And that’s where I took my inspiration from.
I started by trimming down some dark brown paper and placing it in my MISTI. I then stamped the oak stamp by Stamperia using sticky embossing ink. I had to press down a few times to get all the detail, and even then there was one part of the trunk that wasn’t stamping properly. I used my embossing ink pen to fill in that area, then coated the whole image with gold embossing powder and heat set it.
After embossing the image I trimmed the panel down some more. I then decided to add a slight edging of gold to the panel. I did this by running the edges of the panel through my embossing ink pad, coating with the gold powder and melting.
As I don’t have any cream card bases, nor heavy enough cream card to make one, I used a white card base and covered it with cream paper to create my background. I then adhered my focal panel to the card base using foam tape to give it some dimension.
For the final touch I added a sentiment just below my focal panel with the help of my MISTI. The sentiment I chose is from Simon Says Stamp’s Kind Flowers stamp set. I stamped it using MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.
I’m quite pleased with this card. The colours really are lovely together. The tree stamp really is pretty too, and every time I use it I think that I should try to use it more often! I did get a bit frustrated because I couldn’t seem to adhere anything straight when I made this. But they’re not too wonky, so I guess it’s not too bad!
