The new format challenge over at Cupcake Inspirations seems to be really popular! We had a fabulous turn-out for our Winter-themed challenge. If you played along, be sure to go and check whether you were the lucky winner. Our new challenge is a colour challenge. We’re looking for you to use cream, rose and black on your cards. Our sponsor for this challenge is A Day For Daisies, who are offering a $12 gift certificate to one lucky winner. They also provided images for the DT cards – be sure to head on over to the challenge site to see what the rest of the team made.
I started by printing out the Little Striped Dress image from A Day For Daisies onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. I then started colouring the image in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I used a variety of pink tones to colour alternate stripes on her dress as well as the girl’s boots and one of the balloons. I then pulled out my darkest grey Yosoo alcohol markers to colour the other stripes of the dress in black, and used them to colour another of the balloons. I returned to the Spectrum Noir markers to colour her skin and hair. I used the same colour from her hair on my cream balloon, which is actually a bit darker than I would have preferred. I also used the same colour (Eggshell) to add a hint of cast shadow from the girl’s feet to ground her.
Next I placed my coloured panel into my MISTI and used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink to stamp my sentiment. The sentiment I used is from the Creative Expressions John Lockwood Lily of the Valley stamp set.
As a final touch I used my clear Wink of Stella to add shimmer to each of the balloons as well as the girl’s dress. My printer ink is not waterproof, as I learned with a previous card, but I was able to avoid smudging by being careful to avoid the lines of the stamp.
I’m really pleased with this sweet, clean and simple birthday card. I’ve certainly been enjoying making one layer cards recently, and this is no exception! I’m quite happy with the colouring too. I could have made a more elaborate card, and I may well do another version at some point that is more involved. But I like how this one came together. It was nice and quick, too!
Love,
Lady Joyful
