We’re feeling the love over at the Cupcake Inspiration Challenge where our new theme is For Those You Love. This challenge is a sponsored one and we have a prize of 4 files of the winners choice from Little Scraps of Heaven. I used their super cute Love You Watts digi as the focus of my card.
I started by printing the bear image onto some alcohol marker friendly card. I then die cut it out with a large heart die before beginning my colouring.
I used Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour my image, starting with the body of the bear which I did in tan shades. I usually work with my shadows on the left but as I wanted to allow the lightbulb to be the light source I instead put the shadows on the right on this occasion.
For the bears stomach and muzzle I went with light golden brown shades to slightly differentiate from his body, then finished off with darker brown shades for the nose and inner ears.
I wanted the lightbulb to have a pink glow from the heart at the centre so of course used shades of pink for that. I added the lightest pink as areas of highlight along the bear where I felt the light would be hitting. I finished off the colouring with a slight cast shadow beneath the bear. I then added some shine to the bulb with a Nuvo Aqua Shimmer pen, taking care not to smudge the printer ink as mine is not waterproof.
Moving on to my background I chose a red card base and used Hero Arts Unicorn pigment ink with Love From Lizi’s Candystripe Background stamp to add interest to it. I then cut two banners to add over the top – one from a large snippet of vellum, and another from a narrower strip of black card. I used double sided tape to adhere them to the striped card base.
Before adding my die cut focal panel to the card I went around the edge of the card base with a water-based brush marker in pink. I also stamped a sentiment from Hero Arts’ Polar Greetings with Versafine Onyx Black ink, and used a white gel pen to help define where it overlapped the image.

Whilst it’s a little busier than my preferred CAS style I’m pretty pleased with how this card turned out. The image is very cute and such a perfect match to our theme. I hope this inspires you to come and join in with our challenge. If you need more inspiration you can find beautiful cards from the rest of the team over on the challenge page,or directly at their blogs via the links below.
