Here’s a simple and sweet(!) card that I had a lot of fun making. It is a response to three challenges. The colours come from the challenge from Global Design Project. The Summery theme comes from Simon Says Stamp Monday. And, whilst the challenge actually went up a little while after I’d finished making this, The Paper Players‘ “something sweet” challenge seemed like a perfect fit!
I started by making my lollies. I found a snippet of heavy white paper (I don’t think it is actually watercolour, but close enough!) I trimmed it to three rectangles of about the size I wanted, and then rounded the top corners of each with my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile Corner Chomper. I then got started with painting them. I tried to add some simple shading by starting my colour on the right then drawing it across in a more watered down version. I then also went back and added a slightly darker colour on the right hand side and blended it through. The yellow and green didn’t show that up as well as I would have liked though!
I set my lollies aside to dry and found some little bits of brown card to make little sticks for the lollies. They were very simple to make – just cut a narrow strip then took three little pieces of it.
Once my lollies were more or less dry I went back in with a slightly darker shade of each colour to add lines down the middle to give more of an authentic lolly look. I then took my white gel pen to add more shine to the top right corner.
After working out where I wanted each lolly to be I put foam tape on the backs of them and pressed them in place. I then slid the sticks underneath, attaching them directly to the cardbase with Tombow Multi Mono Liquid glue.
Finally I stamped on my sentiment. I used Lawn Fawn’s Jessie’s ABCs to compose the sentiment, and stamped it with black pigment ink.
I really like this card. It reminds me a bit of one I did before but, y’know, better! Creating the lollies was fun. I know there are stamp sets out there that do the same thing, and probably simplify the procedure a lot, but I enjoyed doing them this way.
Love,
Lady Joyful
Your lollies are great. Sometimes totally hand made, no stamp or die, is better, right?

Yes, exactly! Forces me to be a bit braver too when I have to try and freestyle it.

Thanks 😀 I wasn’t sure whether to add the white gel pen or not, but I think it was definitely the right choice!

I think it adds an authentic touch..it’s like when I draw balloons, I’m never sure whether to add the “shine” bit on them or not…

Oh yes, balloons look good with a bit of shine! I think the issue perhaps is having got the lolly (or balloon!) pretty much how it should be it feels like adding the white shine risks ruining it. But I think most of the time it is worth adding.
