Hello Mermaid – IWD Nov 20-Dec 4

For the newest challenge at Incy Wincy Designs we have a fun sketch to play with. I turned mine around, and swapped the oval to a circle as I don’t have any oval dies. This challenge is sponsored by All Dressed Up (who provided the image I used on my card) and Ppinky Dolls, who are both providing prizes to our lucky winners.

My starting point was the Mermaid Kisses image from All Dressed Up. I printed it at the size I wanted onto some alcohol marker friendly paper, then coloured it in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers. I decided to go blonde for her hair, and green for the tail and top. For the shells I picked pink. With the fish I used some of the same colours that I had used for her hair and the shells, to help tie it all together.

I used a circle die to cut out my coloured image, then used a rounded square die in a similar size to cut some dark blue paper to go behind it. I then started working on my background elements. Originally I had intended to paint a background and cut it down into panels to use. However as I have been ill recently (and still am…) I have got really behind on things, so I decided I’d do something a bit quicker and use up some snippets of patterned paper in the process. I found some appropriate snippets in an old card kit (SFL Pirates and Mermaids kit) and used those.

For my sentiment I used Avery Elle’s Petal Panel stamp set, and stamped onto a piece of matching white paper which I mounted on the same dark blue that I had used behind my focal panel. I then used double sided tape  to adhere all my elements into place. Finally I added some sparkle to the mermaid by coating her tail and top with Wink of Stella, which I also added to the shells and fish.

Whilst it ended up being a bit different from what I’d originally had in mind, I’m really happy with this card. I enjoyed colouring the sweet image, and it was great to be able to use up some snippets of paper that I’d had hanging around. Also I’m glad the papers coordinated so well, given I hadn’t even been considering them when I’d coloured my mermaid!

Love,

Lady Joyful
