Skull And Cross Buns | Tropical Sunrise | Month of Celebration

Compensated post – see disclaimer at the end.

The celebration continues! Not sure what I’m talking about? Well, I recently reached 2000 subscribers on my YouTube channel, plus it’s my birthday month. All month long I’m going to be creating videos, and the more you comment on the more chances you’ll have to win a prize! Check out the original video to hear all about it, then leave a comment on the video, and head over to the Rafflecopter to confirm your entry. Commenting on today’s video is just one way to get an extra entry towards the prize draw. I actually made this card a few months ago but never got around to finished the video and sharing it, so I thought it would be ideal to share today.

I started by creating my ink blended panel. I used the Skull and Cross Bun’s Sunray stenciland blended through it with Catherine Pooler’s Limoncello ink. I then removed the stencil and masked off the rays before ink blending over again with Party Dress.

Next I bought in the MFT Cloud Edges Stencil and blended my clouds with Party Dress and Flirty Fuchsia, rotating the stencil as I want so that the rows of clouds would have some variation. Once I reached the bottom of the panel I unmasked my sunrays and moved the cloud stencil back to the top, blending over again to soften the rays. I finished my ink blended panel by going around the edges with the Party Dress ink.

I cut down my ink blended panel with one of the Kat Scrappiness Crafters Essentials I Dies. I used the same die to cut a snippet of black card stock which I trimmed down to use for my sentiment. I white heat embossed a sentiment from Quirky Sentiments onto it and adhered the black piece to the ink blended piece.

For my focal element I stamped out the flamingo, several leaves, and flowers from the Tropical Party Stamp Set and used sponge daubers to add colour onto them. I used the Limoncello for the flamino’s legs and Party Dress for its body. I used the Party Dress again for some flowers, with the Flirty Fuchsia for the others. I also bought in Lime Rickey for the leaves. Some of the leaves are actually feathers, but using them as leaves is a good way to stretch your supplies.

After I’d finished colouring the images I fussy cut them out and spent a long time fiddling around trying to decide on an arrangement. The eventual arrangement I decided on has a somewhat triangular shape, with the flowers laid out in a visual triangle too, which adds interest to the design. I used my Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue to adhere all of the pieces into place on my ink blended panel, then popped the panel up on a white card base. The corners of the card base are rounded to match the rounded corners of the focal panel.

If you watch the video that goes with this card you’ll know that I did have a few issues making it. I would definitely suggest watching the video by Lisa Mensing that inspired this card, as I think she did a better job of the blended background than I did! Still I had fun making this card, and that’s the most important thing. Remember to hop over to YouTube and leave a comment there, then fill out the Rafflecopter to be in the running for my prize giveaway!
