Birdsong

This is my second attempt at this card. I had an approximate idea for the card, but the first time I made it I really wasn’t happy with it. It wasn’t bad exactly, I just felt it wasn’t good enough. So I started over. I changed up the colour scheme, and I made it a one layer card. And I’m so much happier with it!

I started by die cutting a circle of scratch paper and using the circle as a mask. I ink blended Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink to create a halo of sorts around what would become the area for my image. I kept the colour fairly light, then removed the mask. I then took a straight edge of scratch paper so that I could add a little ink blended grounding to where the birds would be stamped.

I placed the panel into my MISTI and started on my stamping. All the stamps I used come from Lawn Fawn’s Happy Wedding, and I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I replaced my circle mask then stamped the xo chain across the card base, then added a line of musical notes above it. I removed the mask, then stamped the bird couple into my circle above the grounding I had previously ink blended. I also added some music notes above their heads. I stamped three notes in the black in, then added some more subtle notes using the Spiced Marmalade. In order to keep them very subtle I stamped off twice before stamping them.

Finally I coloured in my birds using Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I used CT1, CT2 and TN3 for the bodies of the birds. For I then coloured the beaks and flower orange using GY2 and BO2.

I’m so much happier with this version of the card than I was with my original attempt. The colours work a lot better, and I really like the design as a single layer rather than layered up. My original version had a die cut circle on foam tape, with two strips of paper adhered behind it. The ink blending came out pretty nicely, and the colours I used on the birds do coordinate well with the distress ink.

Love,

Lady Joyful
