Craftin Desert Divas October Release | Cheerful Snowman

It’s time to share the final card I made with the October release from Craftin Desert Divas. Here I’m using the Cheerful Snowman image. You can see the previous card I made with it here, as well as the cards I made with Present Snowman here and here.

I decided to combine the Cheerful Snowman with the image and sentiment from Singing Penguins. I thought they would go beautifully together to create an adorable singing scene. I printed them directly on to my card base so that I could again make a one layer card.

I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour in my images. As with the previous cards I used pale blues to shade the white of the snowman to keep it looking cold. I used the same blues for my cast shadows grounding the images so that it looks like they’re standing in snow or ice.

With the penguins I went with grey for shading the white so that I could give them a warmer look than the blue gave. I used darker greys for the black area of the penguins. My darkest greys are actually not very dark so they are not as black looking as I would like, but it works well enough. I used the same dark greys on the buttons.

I decided to go with blue, bright pink and teal for the hats and scarves in the images as well as the baubles. Any white areas were shaded with a very light cream tone to differentiate from the other whites. I used the same creamy colour on the paper of the song book held by the penguin.

A touch of red, green and brown finished off the image, colouring the robin, snowman’s arms, holly and berries as well as a little on the baubles. Having completed the colouring I used a white gel pen to add some highlights in certain areas. I also went in with a black fine liner to add some musical notes over the to in to look as though it is singing along with the penguins.

This cute scene card was a lot of fun to create. As I said with my previous card the images go together so beautifully to create these kinds of scenes. I could have bought in more images to really build the scene, but I decided to stay fairly clean and simple on this occasion. Maybe I will create something more elaborate next time!
