Bubble Wrap Background | Simon Says Stamp Card Kit July 2019 | Video

I finally received my July Simon Says Stamp card kit and thought I’d have a quick play with it. I’m not sure why it took so long – I picked it up at the end of last week, and yesterday my August kit arrived! I figured I’d share this card anyway as I’ve already made it but I will then most likely play with the August kit next as it’s more relevant. I may come back and make more with this kit later in the month though.

My focus with this card was creating the bubble wrap background. This is really easy to do but makes for a fun and interesting design. I cut a panel of bubble wrap, inked it up with Wild Honey Distress Oxide, then pressed a cut down panel of watercolour paper onto it, as if using a background stamp. I also then spritzed the bubble wrap with water and picked up the resulting ink with another panel of watercolour paper, which created a slightly different look. I put the second panel aside and used the first panel for my card.

I picked out a cream card for my card base and worked out where I wanted to put the bubble wrap panel on it. I wasn’t entirely happy with the colour of the panel against the card base so I used some more Wild Honey and a stencil brush to add some light colour to the edge of the panel.

I also decided to add a little texture to the background. I pulled out the honeycomb stamps from Simon Says Stamp’s Bee Yourself stamp set and stamped onto the card base with Barely Beige ink, for a very subtle look.

For my sentiment I white heat embossed “we bee-long together” from the same stamp set onto a piece of black card. I trimmed it down and adhered it with Tombow Mono Multi Liquid glue to my bubble wrap panel. I then popped the panel up on foam tape onto the card base, before adding a pair of bees which I’d previously stamped, coloured and fussy cut. The bees are also from the Bee Yourself stamp set.

The final touch on this card was the addition of some Nuvo Drops. I used Limoncello to tie in with the rest of the card.

The bubble wrap background technique gives such a fun look to this card, and it’s a great way to make use of what you have on hand when creating. I think it works really well with these bees as it has a honeycomb feel to it. It could quite easily be adapted for other themes by changing up the colours – using blue to make it look like bubbles for a watery background, for example.

Love,

Lady Joyful

  3. Charlotte what a great technique using bubble wrap. I have used it smooching on a painted background, but haven’t thought to put ink on it and then onto cardstock. How easy but a great result. Thank you for joining us at SheepSki Designs. Love your bee card and good luck. Gail DT
