CIC 487 | Love Birds | Love-Valentine’s Day

The current challenge at Cupcake Inspiration is well underway – in fact there’s only a couple of days left to enter as I’m late with this blog post. (I could have sworn I’d published it at the beginning of the week!) For our reminder post I created a sweet CAS card in a soft colour palette.

I started by positioning the two solid bird stamps from Catherine Pooler’s Happy Together onto a pale pink card base. I used my MISTI as I knew I would be adding several layers of ink.

First I inked up both stamps entirely with Altenew’s Soft Lilac ink. I stamped this a couple of times to get a good coverage as the card base was slightly textured.

I then switched to Lavender Fields, inking about two thirds to three quarters of the stamps and using my finger to soften the edge of the ink where I wanted it to fade into the lighter colour. I repeated the process, inking less of the stamp each time, using Deep Iris and finally Midnight Violet ink. I then went back through the layers, this time from darkest to lightest, to improve the blend.

I considered adding the detail layer to the birds but decided against it and instead just stamped my sentiment overlapping the birds’ pale tails. I initially stamped it with Twilight ink but later switched to the darker Midnight.

As a final touch I stamped the solid heart from the stamp set between the birds. I heat embossed with Love From Lizi’s Rainbow Wishes embossing powder for a subtle, glittery heart.

Initially when I finished this card I felt like it still needed something. I resisted the urge to mess with it and stepped away for a bit. I’m glad I did, as returning to it I am pleased with the design and I think it does seem complete. I think the purple ombre of the birds works nicely and goes well with the pink card base.
